It's been one week since you looked at me/Cocked your head to side and said "I'm angry"/ Five days since you laughed at me saying/"Get that together and come back and see me."
Barenaked Ladies.
At midnight on October 26/27, I smoked what I hope will be my last cigarette. It's been an interesting week. I have snapped at my mother-in-law, my child, the dogs and I went ballistic on a telemarketer who's grasp of English, I'm afraid, prevented him from feeling the full force of my raging nicotine withdrawal tirade regarding the Do Not Call Registry. My sleep schedule has been wacky and disturbed and I've had some really alarming dreams, most notably about Lobster Boy.
My husband, Martin, who has been very supportive and is quitting himself, has wisely chosen to steer clear of me when I am having these meltdowns. He seems to be handling this much better than I am. He's also been through it many more times than I have.
I've also received a lot of support from my faithful readers and I appreciate it. My friend Loretta, who is also quitting, has offered me opportunities to rant. I'm sure that if Big Brother is listening to us, his ears are melting after hearing these nice middle class hausfrau ladies drop the F bomb so often and in such creative ways.
The Zyban really is a help with the cravings and Martin believes it has helped his as well. In addition to curbing my nicotine jones, it seems to help with my overall attitude and outlook. Things have not been all wine and roses Chez Watson for the past six months, so I'm wondering if I need to be back on anti-depressants. That might be worth a trip to the doctor to investigate.
In the meantime, it's been a week. I thank everyone for their support and encouragement, especially Martin and Loretta and Lobster Boy for filling so many of my nights with those wonderful creepy dreams.
Keep at it, Lisa! You are doing a fantastic job!

Bad weeks come in all sizes. A friend sent me this about the San Diego fires. http://ttbarbosa.com/2007firestorm_01.html. Good luck stopping smoking, but keep it all in perspective.
