Livingston County has a beautiful, historic courthouse. Years ago, the courthouse was a high school. Although it currently houses mostly offices and no hearings or trials are held there, it still retains it's majestic beauty both inside and out. Notwithstanding the recent roof cave-in in the back addition.
Every Friday throughout the summer, the Howell Arts Council hosts Concerts At The Courthouse. They bring in a wide variety of music. Some past concerts have featured swing music and country. This Friday Exit 145 played. Exit 145 is the exit off I-96 to Brighton. The lead singer, Buzz Elliot, of Exit 145, is a DJ at WHMI, our local radio station.
Even though it was ungodly hot yesterday even at 7 p.m., the turnout was tremendous. The band was pretty good, playing a lot of covers (Brown Eyed Girl, Margaritaville, the obligatory Bob Seger) that everyone knew the words to. A hundred kids were dancing and running around and it was very family oriented.
Mia wanted to dance but she wouldn't actually put her feet on the ground. She was clinging to me like a growth. Instead of chair dancing, we did the Toddler Clinging Like A Growth dancing.
Some upcoming concerts: July 22, Walt Cieslik and the Ambassadors playing polka (we'll be skipping that one), Odessa Harris singing blues, Prime Vocal Jazz, Sypder Turner and the So Fine Brothers playing Motown.
I look forward to seeing Odessa Harris again and checking out Prime Vocal Jazz, Spyder Turner and the So Fine Brothers.
Best of all? It's free. And Dairy Queen is right next door.
No polka? Sheesh. And here I thought you were a cultured gal. :)

Sounds so much more fun than pulling out poorly installed ceramic tile to reveal the moldy floor underneath and putting down a new sub-floor until 3 in the morning.
Ugh!

Found your blog while Googling Howell images not on the library web site... enjoyed reading a number of your entries.
Lived in Howell from 1948 until 1971 and still have many friends and relatives there and visit often.
FYI --- The courthouse was always just that, a courthouse... there was first a wooden one which burned... http://www.howelllibrary.org/html/exh_03-p2.htm --- then later the brick one to which you refer... http://www.howelllibrary.org/html/exh_03-p12.htm
