I discovered yesterday that I have been driving around on expired license plates for well over two weeks.
Thankfully, I did not discover this when a nice constabulary type person told me this.
See, my birthday is in July. My plates expire in February. This goes back to at least the previous car, maybe two. I did some sort of stupid 18 month plate or something that got me all off course.
I am lucky that the 2006 sticker was the same color as one already on my plate. That, and the fact that the big spare tire mounted on the back on my ZR2 doesn't make my plate easy to see. (NOTE: The mud also helps since I live in the winter/spring wonderland and I am too cheap to pay to get my truck washed every time it gets dirty and far too lazy to do it myself.)
This does not, however, excuse the fact that last summer I drove around with an expired license for almost two months. I finally realized that one when the teller at the bank said, "Hey Lisa, you're license has been expired for almost two months now! Did you know that?"
No, no I didn't because I was busy achieving WORLD PEACE.
In which the author "discovers" that she is a criminal, hmm? What about the bootlegging you did in college, driving to Jersey to buy alcohol? Don't they do the plate renewal by mail in Michigan? So much easier that way, I'd probably never remember otherwise. And I know, I know, I'm still remiss in that email I owe you. I absolutely, truly, positively promise to write when I get home from the doctor's tomorrow.

Of COURSE, they send you something, like 8 weeks in advance. I put it in the pile, where it moldered until I noticed my plate ran out.

Aaaaah...back when I lived in Massachusetts, there was some sort of snafu with my plates. I found out one day from a letter from the Registry of Motor Vehicles, that there was a BENCH WARRANT out for my arrest. OK, that's bad.
Funny how a trip to the Registry and 300 buck solved the problem, though, eh?
