Ok folks, this gay "issue" is going beyond a joke!

I was glad to hear today that the Supreme Court upheld the Mass. Gay marriage verdict!

I was astonished to hear some nasty, mean, small minded, right wing, ultra religious, bitch say that because of that verdict they will work harder on pursuing an amendment to the Constitution banning same sex marriage.

Right out of the gate: Who else here feels like (no matter how you fall on the gay "issue") the Government has NO business telling you who you can and who can't marry? Does this sound like freedom to you? It doesn't to me...

2nd point... Where did this idiot read in the bible that it's ok to prosecute and persecute people because of their sexual preference? When I attended the Sunday School my Mum taught at we were told that in order to follow the teachings of Jesus you should be benevolent and tolerant of others no matter what. Then again, that kind of falls under my category of Christianity as a whole these days. It's a wonderful idea but there are far too many people out there calling themselves Christians and far too few *actual* Christians...

3rd point... Who out there other than the nut bag, crazy assed, ultra right wingers actually feels "threatened" by gay people? Are they really that scary? Do you honestly believe that they are out to raze society as we know it to the ground? Or do they simply want the same (Human) rights as everyone else in this country?

Point 4: How many of you out there know someone who is gay? I bet damn near all of you do. I also bet that almost to a person you can honestly say that if you do know someone who is gay that he/she is a very nice, intelligent, fun person and someone you like to interact with. Does this sound like the "group" of people we should be going after in this country? This is after all one of the country's that still supports the rights of groups that do nothing but spread hate and violence. The KKK comes to mind, the goddamn Nazi's springs up, the crazy militia idiots, etc. But no, the gay people are the problem! Look out! If you run across a gay rally you might get great decorating tips, a decent haircut, and an "in" at the best restaurant in town, and a decent Martini recipe! (shudder! Look out! Run for your lives!)...

Point 5: If gay people are allowed the same rights as straight people how exactly will that undermine the sanctity of your or my marriage? Honestly, how will that affect your marriage or mine...? Will we not be able to love our spouses in quite the same way? Will we not care about or families as much? How exactly does legal Gay marriage affect MY marriage? I've been told it does affect it more times than I can count... Oddly enough I can't think of one reason why that would be true...

Conclusion: Get over yourselves (ultra conservative idiots in charge) and get back to the REAL problems this country faces! Unemployment! Getting our young men and women the hell out of the mid-east before too many more of them have to die needlessly! The economy in general! Stopping the trend of sending our damn jobs overseas! The list goes on...

Grow up and leave the gay people alone! All they want is the same damn thing anyone else in this country wants... To make a living, have someplace decent to live, drive an SUV, be happy in a relationship, and be left ALONE to live their lives!

That's it, I'm done... rant over...

  • Edward Ugel: Money For Nothing
Subtitled, One Man's Journey Through The Dark Side Of Lottery Millions. (****)
  • Susan Braudy: This Crazy Thing Called Love
The true story behind the Billy Woodward shooting, the case on which Dominick Dunne based his novel, The Two Mrs. Grenvilles. (*****)
  • Matt Birbeck: A Beautiful Child
True story about the mysterious life and death of a young woman who's real identity still remains unclear. Excellent read. (****)
  • Richard Yates: Revolutionary Road
A novel about the alienation arising from living in the "perfect" suburbs. Hailed as a great literary book. I thought it was okay, at best. (**)
  • Annie Proulx: Close Range, Wyoming Stories
A collection of lyrical short stories from Annie Proulx that contains Brokeback Mountain among other gems. (****)
  • John Grisham: The Innocent Man
I can only quote from the jacket blurb: "If you believe that in America you are innocent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you. If you believe the criminal justice system is fair, this book will infuriate you." A must read. (*****)

Fascinating look at women journalists at the front during WWII. (****)
