Kudos to John for making a comment that make me revisit this case.
I got hooked on Court TV watching the OJ case. I was home with my infant son and well, cable tv was about all I had going on other than laundry, burpings and Barney. I'd always been a true crime buff but the OJ case had all the elements; sex, celebrity, race, money. The only mystery was why. If I remember correctly, Court TV was in its infancy and this was one of the first cases televised, if not the first.
I've always thought OJ did it. Still do. Who else would it be? He was found guilty in the civil suit. That case received nowhere near the publicity the criminal case did.
The inevitable comparisons between OJ and Scott Peterson have been bandied about in the media, but I don't see them, other than the most overt ones. Both are narcissistic wife killers who lived in California. OJ killed Nicole because he was a batterer. Poor Ron Goldman just had the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Scott killed Laci and their unborn child because he was a lying cheating sack of shit who's world was crumbling down and he was already onto the latest greatest thing. Laci was as disposable as yesterday's paper to him.
Back to OJ. Much speculation has been made about whether or not OJ had help in the killing of Ron and Nicole. After all, Ron was not a little guy, and Nicole was a very physically fit woman. I think, however, that OJ's rage after getting dissed at the dance recital awoke a sleeping beast that was fueled by drugs. Possibly cocaine or even crack. Many rumors swirled about his cocaine use, and if I remember correctly, he wasn't tested for drugs in any sort of reasonable time frame after the murders. Although I am certain OJ acted alone in the actual murders, I don't doubt for a moment he had help after, probably AJ Cowlings. I think OJ would have been much too frenzied and full of adrenalin to get himself to Chicago without attracting notice, not to mention some of the tidying up he would have had to do, such as getting rid of his clothes. Hence the blood inside his truck and the infamous glove and the designer shoes.
I don't think there was any big conspiracy within the LAPD to frame him. I think the prosecution was just overwhelmed by the nutty judge and the stunts the defense was allowed to get away with and the apathetic jury. By the end of that case, everyone involved just wanted to get the hell out of that courtroom.
I believe in karma and divine retribution. OJ will get his. The civil case hasn't touched him due to his maneuvering financially, but justice does await him at some point.
In the meantime, please keep in mind that these are just my opinions.
And also, always remember Nicole and Ron and lives cut short through the actions of a selfish egomaniac.
We know from the testimony from the coroner that Ron Goldman had defensive wounds, meaning that he was not snuck up from behind and had his throat slashed then and there.
Despite this struggle,m there was no evidence of OJ Simpson being involved in such a physical altercation.
Someone else was there.
