Michigan participates in the Mega Millions Lottery drawing, held every Tuesday and Friday evening. Allegedly, the money goes toward education, but I have my doubts about that. I've heard rumors for years that it actually goes into the General Fund (a.k.a. "The Black Hole of Finance in Government.") I would hope that at least some of the dollars generated by the lottery does eventually go toward education.
I play the Mega Millions every Tuesday and Friday religiously. Yes, I know it's gambling and really not appropriate to say I play it religiously but whatever. I get a $5 easy pick ticket, worth five chances. The odds are better that I will be a victim of a terrorist attack or get struck by lightening than my odds of winning the Lotto.
But hey, a girl can dream, and someone has to win, right? Why not me?
In the meantime, I dream about it. Oh, I wouldn't even need one of the huge payouts, the 85 million dollar ones. That's so much money it's not even real. I'd be happy with a couple million.
What I could do. First on the agenda, I'd be sending a postcard from the Caribbean to Bob, my boss. I'd invite him down, but my days at the excavation company would be done. None of this heartfelt bullshit about how I'd still keep my job and live on the interest. I want an excuse to wear a tiara, damn it!
Next on the agenda, after paying off all my debt, would be a fabulous vacation including some of my closest friends and their spouses. Namely, Darr and Mark, Sarah and Shaun and of course Sam. I figure a cruise that ends up somewhere sunny that doesn't have a hurricane in the weather predictions. The guys could go deep sea fishing, sailing, whatever, while we ladies would sun, read, drink lots of drinks that involve rum and umbrellas while getting our daily spa treatments and laugh like hell. Because I do always laugh so much with Darr and Sarah and happily, our husbands seem to enjoy each other's company as well.
I'd have my dream house built, on a lake. I'd make sure it was big enough to house my in-laws (preferably in another wing) and my sister and her wife Janie. I'd spend whole days cooking fabulous meals that we could all share. In ground pool, sauna, hot tub and lots of guest bedrooms are a must because I plan on doing a lot of entertaining. I love to be a hostess.
Of course, we would need a really state of the art pontoon for the lake and a sailboat for our Caribbean house as well.
I'd buy that 700 series BMW in black with the grey glove leather interior, the moon roof and the five speed. For my summer car, I'd get a Porsche, which has long been my dream car. I'd probably even let Martin get whatever car he wanted as well.
I'd never hesitate about buying a CD and waiting til it goes on sale or waiting until I get a coupon for Borders to buy that hardcover I want. I would probably keep my Kroger Plus Card and still use my grocery coupons, since I do have a frugal streak. (Unbelievable yet its true.)
I'd also make a donation to the agency that handled our adoption. Adoption is expensive and the money prevents a lot of people from pursuing it.
Hey, if you're going to dream, you might as well dream big.
