I am the first to admit I am not a fashionista these days. I don't dress up for work. I don't really go anywhere or do anything that requires dressy clothes other than the occasional funeral or wedding.
I really stressed over what to wear to my 20 year high school reunion.
I am very grateful and very blessed. I am still tall and slender with only a few body parts I actively want to hide. I know this is unusual for a 38 year old and believe me, I am thankful. It is only due to great genes and metabolism, trust me. I am far from a fitness nut. Or even a fitness dabbler. I'm basically quite lazy since I stopped playing rec league softball.
I am lucky that I have the Mediterranean skin and I tan well with few signs of aging. I do not, however, think I truly look Mahvelous, Dahlink.
I did buy a great dress.
Our local outlet mall just opened a Banana Republic Factory Store. See, the more upscale places are apparently loathe to call them "outlets" so they call them "factory store." Whatever, they are cheaper and always have great deals. The Banana Republic store was great, I've always liked their clothes. Martin bought two very nice shirts, I got a pair of cute sandals and a t-shirt and a great dress I am wearing to the reunion.
It's just a simple black halter neck dress, about an inch below the knee. I tried it on three different dresses and the girls working the dressing room agreed that this one was best. One actually said, " You look sassy! You can wear that dress!" I was very happy to hear that. Another lady in the dressing room said she had just bought that dress a week before. I told her I was wearing it to my high school reunion and she said, "OH! SO AM I!" Much alarm on my part until I found out she was from Roseville.
By the way, if you want to find my friends Darr, Sarah or me at the reunion, we will be the ones sitting together, all wearing black dresses, probably laughing, with cocktail in hand.
No, even I am not so vain as to think I look Mahvelous Dahlink, but I'm grateful for what I've got.
A dress that looks good and makes you feel good goes a long way. Now I just have to find sandals that I can dance in after a couple drinks that don't look like I borrowed them from the 63 year old mother-in-law.
