Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer; Anchor Books
I've also read "Into the Wild" and "Into Thin Air" by Krakauer as well as some of his articles for various publications. I find him to be a very thoughtful writer with meticulous research. "Under the Banner of Heaven" is a true tale of Mormon Fundemendalism and religious zealotry taken to extremes. It also presents an unbiased history of the Mormon chruch.
This apparently ruffled quite a few feathers in the LDS community, as the edition I have contains a very long discourse by a Mormon elder, which Krakauer addresses in the appendix.
A very interesting read that I would highly recommend.
