I always check my stats on here. I seem to get the most hits in three categories: Michigan Things, My Tanning Secrets and The Howell High School Class of 1984 Reunion.
Well, I could probably add more tanning secrets but that's pretty boring, even to me, hearing about the upkeep and maintenance of Lisa.
And the reunion was last week-end.
So I guess it leaves more Michigan Things so I will randomly do a few thoughts on the Great Lake State.
* We have a female governor who is actually pretty cool, even if she is a Democrat. She's a sharp lady and while I don't agree with everything she espouses, she is fairly non-partisan is some ways. Jennifer Granholm, pretty good deal. I tell my husband over and over again, and he's a Brit who admires Maggie Thatcher, "Women bring a different plate to the table and that plate is useful." That was a direct quote from my immigrant grandfather.
* People are not huge professional sports team fans here. Part of this is because most them suck. Yeah, the Wings are great, so are the Pistons. But we're all more interested in State vs. U of M. I'm a State fan, personally. Family feuds occur during NCAA football and basketball season. I know of two people who take this very seriously. One is my in-laws neighbor, who lowers his flag when U of M loses. The other person I know is a guy I work with who lowers his State flag when appropriate. Course, the U of M fan also lowers his whenever a current or former U of M athlete is indicted.
* Sucks to be a U of M fan. State may be the underdog, but hey they nip ankles pretty damn hard.
* I personally find Detroit and Saginaw to be very racist. I find East Lansing, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids to not be. Grand Rapids is very churchy though. Like too much.
* One of the greatest free things to do in Michigan is to go to the State History Museum in Lansing. It documents Michigan from the Stone Age until the 80s. All kinds of interesting things in there. Best of all, it's free.
* Michigan has really unpredictable weather. We just had fall, but now it's back to 80 degrees. I don't look stupid wearing a sweatshirt over a t-shirt with shorts. It's adjustable to the weather.
* No matter where you go in Michigan, there is an outlet mall an easy drive away.
* I will reiterate. If you live in Michigan and your town has anything remotely interesting going on, you will have the appropriate Fest of some sort.
Help me out, here, guys.
