I am sick to death of the election.
I used to be fairly politically active, not really by choice. My ex-husband worked in politics. As a funny aside, my ex-husband's first name is Kerry and he is a mouth frothing rabid Republican and John Kerry running for President must irritate him to no end. I find this extremely funny. I hope someone has slapped a Kerry for President sticker on his car at some point.
I consider myself fairly well versed in politics and keep up with the issues.
But this past month, I've really had my fill.
I'm sick to death of the Swift Boat guys. I actually blogged about them at one point and now I'm semi-ashamed. I don't know if they are full of it or not, and right now, I could care less. I'm tired of hearing about them.
I'm not real fond of Bush. I never have been. Yes, I know he went to Yale, but the guy can't string together a sentence off the cuff for love or money. He is a horrible public speaker and his speech writers are abysmal as well. We won't even get into Ashcroft.
Kerry is just ten pounds of shite in a five pound bag, too.
Cripes, even Bill Clinton is looking good these days and he's a total socialist as well as a slut.
My biggest problem with both Bush and Kerry is that neither has any sort of common denominator with the Average Joe. Neither one of them had to live on Ramen noodles and Pop Tarts in college while worrying about how they were going to buy books. Neither one of them had to worry about paying either the phone bill or the electric bill. They've never saved to go on vacation. They've never bought cheap shampoo or shopped the clearance rack.
I'm sure both of them grew up with live-in help.
Neither one of them have any idea what the Average Joe (or Jane in my case) thinks, feels, or worries about right now.
The worst part is, I don't think they care. It's not about us, you and I.
What has happened to this country that we have become so elitist that only the very wealthy can run for office at that level?
Who exactly are these people representing? Probably not you nor I.
What am I concerned about?
Jobs. Right here, right now. Stop shipping them overseas. We are not here to support the Taj Mahal branch of Citibank.
Health Care. Why is my insurance getting more expensive and my coverage getting worse? I am an office manager for a small (20 employees) excavation company, and we pay almost 18 grand a month for health insurance and it's not even great coverage. It's fair at best.
I worry about the war because it really bothers me that we are sacrificing so many of our troops. Did Bush not get any sort of advice on Jihad or what? Did he never read a book? Does he not understand that these people DO NOT CARE if they blow themselves up or care about who they take with them? They think it is the fastest way to Allah and the rest of us are just infidels, anyway. The extremists are also not done with us yet. I'm convinced of that.
Education, food, shelter and a decent working wage. There are children everyday in this county who don't get enough to eat. There are schools crumbling down that can't afford new books. There are people who try to get by on our laughable minimum wage.
I know I am pissing in the wind (as my mother used to say) but I really think we need an Average Joe or Jane president who wasn't born into incredible wealth and privilege. Who went to say, Michigan State or Kansas State. If he or she went to college at all. Who's to say a nice blue-collar type wouldn't do just as well? We need someone who has lived a life like the majority of voters have. Who is in touch with the vast population of the United States, those of us who live in places like Livingston County, Michigan, and Livingston, New Jersey. Normal workaday places.
That's my political rant. I'm done for now.
Hey, at least Al Gore isn't in the mix. He did invent the internet, you know. Heh.
AMEN !!!! I wish more people were PO'd about this legacy we are leaving our kids....
