Much delirium in SE Michigan yesterday over President Bush's visit. He ended his evening at a private fund raising dinner in Bloomfield Hills. My husband and I were taking bets as to how much the tickets were going for, since it was held at a donor's private residence. My guess was $5000. Imagine my shock when I heard the donation for this dinner was $25,000. Yes, you read that right. Twenty- five grand. I wonder if anyone paid in cash?
People are paying considerably more the the annual poverty level income to have dinner with Dubya. What the hell is wrong with this country?
I make just over $25,000 a year and I have a master's degree. Granted, I am "underemployed", I have a job, not a career, by choice, but that is obscene. Instead of spending $25,000 for a war mongering theocrat, maybe these people could use that $25,000 to do something really worthwhile.
Detroit is crumbling around the ears of the residents, the crime rate is horrendous so far this year and we are hosting a SuperBowl soon. Michigan in general is WAY in the red on the budget. Are the people who can afford to pay $25,000 to eat a rubber chicken dinner paying their fair share of state taxes, since they obviously have so much disposable income?
This really burns my ass.
Not that I am a big John Kerry fan either. Hard to take him real seriously when he is married to one of the wealthiest women in America and was able to attend Yale. I don't think he ever wondered, "Gee, do we make the car payment late or the mortgage or let the phone go this month?"
Neither of these men have even the remotest shred of common experience of the average American.
I am totally befuddled and confused as to which lever I am going to pull come November. At this point, I am ready to write myself in. I may not have a political background, but I feel I am a typical American who is in touch with the average person.
Lisa for Prez.
