Wasn't Dubya just here like a week ago?
Today, he was made a campaign stop in Marquette, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, speaking at Northern Michigan University. I spent my first ill-fated year of college at NMU.
Rather a strange place to visit. The UP doesn't have a huge population at all, unemployment is rampant there and NMU isn't exactly a huge school that wields a lot of political clout.
In fact, it was the first presidential visit at NMU since William Taft in 1911. Granted, I am not great on history, but can you remember anything about William Taft? I sure can't.
I am really struggling with this election. I have always voted Republican. Not that I plan on voting for the Kerry/Edwards ticket, good Lord no. They are equally scary.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a candidate who wasn't a career politician? One who was a normal person and was just candid and sincere? I imagine him or her saying, something like this:
"You know, we have a lot of dilemmas in this country right now. People don't have health insurance. People don't have jobs. Schools don't have money. Kids go hungry here. We have a war going on. I'm not going to solve all these problems in four years, but I have some ideas to get us back on the right track and I want to listen to what you as citizens have to say. The ideas of the common person built this country and our ideas can bring it back."
Hey, a girl can dream, right?
