I have been reading the excellent site, www.misfitting.com. I have also surfed Court TV forums, oh boy what a bunch over there. For really improbable scenarios, www.scottisinnocent.com.
The Misfitting site is really informative and thought-provoking. The author is a very good writer who has great perspective.
My current opinions:
The jewelry is very important. All the women that I know that wear jewelry everyday, I can tell you what they wear. My co-worker and dear friend Michelle and I discussed this today. As in, "Michelle, if you disappear, you were wearing your wedding ring set with a marquise diamond and channel cut band, a plain gold thumb ring on your left thumb, Sapphire and diamond gold hoops, a Sapphire ring on your right ring finger and a silver necklace with hearts every inch or so." And Shell promptly resounded with, "Lisa, you were wearing......." and rattled off my jewelry precisely as well.
Just conducted an informal test with my DH. Asked him what jewelry I was wearing. He named my engagement ring and wedding band (got the descriptions way off), "earrings", not how many or where, and a toe ring. (He thinks my feet are cute but that's a whole other blog.)
WAY WAY OFF. After I inventoried the "family jewels" (snicker snicker), I had on a lot more that he thought. All of which, I might add, I wear every single day.
Scott probably didn't know exactly what Laci wore everyday. But I bet Laci's sister and mom and friends can certainly list what she always had on. This is telling, because if Laci took off her jewelry before going to bed, I'm sure her female circle would know this, as well. Scott fucked up big time on the jewelry.
The pawn shop and Laci inheriting the stuff from her Grandmother is going to show more motivation. I think they were living WAY beyond their means. Going to a pawn shop is evidence of desperation; pawn shops pay a small fraction of what something is really worth. If you have the disposable income, you are going to take your jewelry to a jeweler and ask to up trade.
Why I am so outraged by this case and feel so terrible for Laci?
I have no doubt that Scott Peterson is guilty. I am still waiting for Geragos to produce some sort of credible defense. How did Geragos come to earn so much money and be so high profile? He certainly doesn't seem to be an effective advocate for the obviously guilty.
