I am an avid reader. I tend toward non-fiction. Lots of true crime, some sociology things, biographies (I particularly enjoy celebrity ones that dish a lot). Memoirs. Humor (love David Sedaris).
I am also a news junkie. I listen to a lot of WWJ in my car, an AM station that is all news, all the time. Weather every hour on the 8's. I read quite a few papers online every day.
As a result of this, I know a little bit about a whole lot of things. Not very useful except in the occasional Trivial Pursuit game. (I'm hopeless in the sports category.)
I do think it's important to have some sort of life of the mind. Don't know who coined that phrase, "Life of the Mind," I think it was someone notable, maybe Collette? Gertrude Stein? Nevertheless, it is important to think about things once in a while. To spark some creativity in your thinking. To explore opinions different from yours.
This blog is a wonderful outlet for the inner artist I sometimes think am. It makes me feel creative. If someone reads it and takes something from it, wonderful. If someone reads it and thinks I am a boring, vain, self-amusing author, well, it's really mostly for me. If I entertain you at all, I am surprisingly pleased. If not, sorry. Find another blog. There's one here on Typepad that the author compiled an entire post concerning her period. So mine can't be all that bad, can it?
